The most striking feature of this north facing building is the geometrically strict and visually powerful impact of its dimensions. The materials used constitute another notable characteristic: white concrete, glass curtain-walls and stainless-steel mesh blinds to give a finish to the reception areas, and surfaces made up of sanded stainless-steel plates and extensions of wood for the conference rooms inside the building. The compact, rational distribution of the building marks out the façades, which follow the octagonal boundary of La Devesa. In addition to this, the fourth and most spectacular façade traces an irregular line following first the direction of the street, and then the open space between the building and the river Ter. In the interior of the building the vestibules, conceived as open spaces, give majestic access to the various different conference rooms. The structure of the building has been designed in such a way as to complement the Girona Trade Fair Centre, which has a net exhibition area of 7,815 m². The two facilities are connected by an overhead passageway, so that it possible to use the two buildings in a simultaneous and complementary fashion. The combined site gives a total exhibition area of 9,300 m², which makes it an ideal venue to hold all kinds of meetings, conferences, conventions, trade fairs and exhibitions. On the ground floor, the three auditoriums have a capacity for 1,230, 402 and 178 people respectively, which makes it possible to hold events for over 1,800 people at the same time. The three floors of this striking building incorporate the most advanced equipment and all conference rooms have natural lighting and an automatic daylight dimming system. |
